The Sahajanandi Darbar:

Lord Swaminarayan encouraged classical music a lot. He had stupendous singers and artists, with each of them excelled in more than one musical instruments. Premanand Swami would control the environment with his singing, the day would turn into night and night into dawn when he sang respective ragas! He incorporated so many ragas in one stanza of his kirtan. Today there aren’t good enough singers to sing his kirtan!

Just imagine, that Lord Swaminarayan who delivered such high and esoteric philosophy, and when he used to applaud their singing, how would they feel?

”Mosu kahe ek taan ga tu nayiri…” Please sing a new alaap for me!

Lord Swaminarayan clapped, clicked his fingers and sometimes sang with them in his deep voice. He enjoyed and admired music because he understood the most subtle nuances of music!

The source of inspiration for their musical art was Lord Swaminarayan.

The Nawab of Junagadh sent the musicians of Gwalior to Sahajanand swami if they wanted to see real Noorani sangeet!

They came and Maharaj welcomed them and requested them to present their art. The musicians said, ”Let your saints sing first, we’ll sing after them…”

Maharaj looked at Premanand Swami. He understood and asked,” Which raaga should I sing?”

Lord Swaminarayan replied,” Sing Bhairavi…”

The musicians of Gwalior skipped a heartbeat. Bhairavi is sung only at dawn, and it is the last raaga. Once Bhairav raaga is sung, no other music is presented, the show is over.

The musicians shook their heads in disappointment. They thought the Lord doesn’t even know when which raaga is sung! Premanand Swami did an alaap and as he preceded to sing, the atmosphere changed from dusk to dawn. The birds started chirping, and the sun seemed to rise again! The saint was controlling the nature!

The musicians of Gwalior surrendered to his saints when they came to present their art. Premanand Swami sang keeping Sahajanand Swami in his heart! The music is the same, but the love for God changes everything.

It has the power to manifest God in front of us.

Mirabai sang for Krishna, she got the poison. Today singers sing her Bhajans, and they get awards! We don’t recognize the truth here!
